On January 1st, 2024, the Antiochian Orthodox Faithful gathered at St Nicholas Church in Punchbowl to observe the feasts of the circumcision of Christ and St. Basil the Great, the patron of His Eminence, Metropolitan Basilios.

Presided over by His Eminence, the day commenced with the Matins and the Liturgy of St. Basil the Great. This service included a special prayer that bestowed blessings upon the New Year, marking the onset of 2024.

Following the sacred services, the congregation transitioned to the Church hall for the tradition of cutting the Vasilopita, also known as Basil bread. The Vasilopita, meticulously prepared, held hidden coins within its folds. Six fortunate individuals discovered these tokens, and in receiving blessings from Metropolitan Basilios, they symbolically embarked on the journey of the new year with added prosperity.

We pray for a blessed and fruitful New Year!
