His Eminence Metropolitan Basilios continued the beginning of 2023 by visiting Melbourne for the feast of Theophany. Sayedna began his visit to Melbourne by presiding at the Hierarchical Liturgy for the feast of Theophany at St George Cathedral, Thornbury on Friday the 6th of January. His Eminence led the supplications for the Holy Spirit to come down and bless the waters provided by the parish. Light refreshments and fellowship followed the service in the hall.
In the evening, His Eminence met with St George’s Parish Council to discuss the future of the Cathedral and provided his advice and support. He expressed his appreciation for the ongoing work of the Cathedral and blessed the Council and the parishioners for the year ahead.
On the evening of the following day, Saturday the 7th of January, His Eminence met with the St Ephraim the Syrian Choir of Melbourne to congratulate them on the release of their new CD: “Come, let us Rejoice in the Lord”, and to share a meal of love with its members. The CD showcases a range of Psalms chanted in English for the faithful to learn, chant and enjoy. The CD is now available on the Archdiocese store.
His Eminence concluded his visit to Melbourne at the parish of the Holy Apostle Paul, Dandenong, liturgising and presiding at the Hierarchical Liturgy for the Sunday after Theophany. St Ephraim the Syrian Choir was also present to chant alongside His Eminence. The service was followed by light refreshments and fellowship in the hall, after which Sayedna was farewelled by those in attendance.
The faithful of Victoria are grateful for His Eminence’s visit to Melbourne and are eagerly awaiting his return. May we have his prayers and may God grant him many fruitful years.
Blessed Theophany of our Lord to all!
