On Monday 23rd December, St. Raphael’s Mission held its annual Christmas Party for the homeless in Martin Place and its members were blessed by the presence of our Metropolitan Basilios, who came to bless and support all of us.
The party consisted of 2 parts; the Dinner service which included a range of hot food. Part 2 was the gift-giving service. Every individual lined up to receive a piece of fruit, a donut, candy cane, lolly bag, and a hamper full of summer-based items to help them get through the season.
Approximately 170 homeless individuals were patiently awaiting our arrival and were thankful for the feast and gifts that they received. They were also appreciative of the volunteers and hairdressers who served them with love, smiles, joy, enthusiasm and to the sound of Christmas carols. The homeless also wanted to express their thanks to our community for their generosity.
In preparation for this night, 25 volunteers gave up their time on Saturday, 14th December to help pack the hampers that were distributed during the Christmas Party. Their dedication and enthusiasm meant we were able to pack the hampers in record time! The team at SRM cannot thank these volunteers enough. They truly brought meaning to the phrase ‘Many hands make light work’.
St. Raphael’s Mission would like to thank all those who donated items, money, or their time to the hamper drive; as well as those who helped make the night a success by donating food. Further we would like to thank the hairdressing services for their time in serving on the night. Without you all, this evening would not have been possible.
Your continued support is appreciated by the homeless, and the team at St. Raphael’s Mission. Merry Christmas! Christ is Born! Glorify Him!
