On Saturday the 2nd of December, Saint George’s Cathedral in Melbourne celebrated the feast days of St. Barbara and St. John of Damascus. Children were invited to dress in costumes as a way of commemorating the life of St. Barbara and how she fled her old life in order to become a Christian.

The day began with an introduction by Rev. Father Isaac Wehbe, joined by Rev. Father George Mattar, and a lesson delivered by the Australian Orthodox Stewards and Youth Group volunteers, about the lives of St. Barbara and St. John of Damascus which was catered to all the ages present. This was followed by an arts and crafts session and a costume parade! The rest of the day was spent dancing and eating festive sweets!

We’d like to thank everyone in attendance on such a wonderful day for creating a lovely and warm atmosphere. May St. Barbara and St. John of Damascus intercede for us all!
