Under the patronage of His Eminence Metropolitan Basilios, clergy from across Victoria, together with the Sunday School teachers, children in years 3 and 4, and their families, gathered on Saturday the 11th of July at St George’s Cathedral to celebrate the Divine Liturgy and the graduation of students from the ‘Being an Orthodox Christian’ program.

This program introduces children to the importance of Baptism, Chrismation, the Holy Eucharist, prayer, fasting, confession, and almsgiving.

At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, the children were presented with a Certificate of Achievement and gifted a Holy Bible on behalf of His Eminence Metropolitan Basilios.

This year, Marie-Claire, the program coordinator, travelled from Sydney to attend the graduation and to speak to the students and their families about how this program came to be developed.

Following the ceremony, the children, their families, the teachers, and the fathers shared in an agape meal and the cutting of a cake in celebration of their achievement.

We thank the parents who registered and supported their children in completing this program.

The Church School Department looks forward to implementing this program once again in 2027 and for many years to come.
