Annual St. George Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral Festival Brings the Community Together
The Annual St. George Antiochian Orthodox Festival is an event that brings together the community of faithful followers of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Parish. Held yearly, the event provides a day of food, fun, and entertainment for all ages. This year, the event also served as an opportunity for the community to come together and support those affected by a recent earthquake in Syria that killed thousands and left thousands homeless.
The event was opened with a prayer with Rev Jack Lutfi then, followed by the AOS band group, setting the tone for a day filled with activities. The crowd was treated to hot food, including zaatar on the Saj, which was a hit among attendees. The children had a great time with the rides, including a mechanical bull, and there was an animal farm for the kids to learn about and interact with different animals. There were also sweet treats, including cakes, for everyone, including a table of sweets from our sister Parish St Ignatius.
In addition to the food and rides, the event also featured live music and Dubkeh dance music, providing entertainment for the adults. Fresh fruit and veggie, coffee, juice, and fruit cups were available for everyone to refresh and refuel.
One of the day’s highlights was the arrival of the police car and fire trucks, which drew much excitement from the crowd. The children were delighted to see the vehicles up close and take photos. A magician was also on hand to perform and delight the audience with his tricks.
Throughout the day, many parishioners generously donated to support those affected by the earthquake in Syria. The community came together to show their support and aid those in need.
The Annual St. George Antiochian Orthodox Festival is a community-building event that provides everyone with a day of enjoyment. With hot food, rides, an animal farm, music, and entertainment, the festival is a truly communal and religious celebration.
Overall, the Annual St. George Antiochian Orthodox Festival was a great success. The generosity of the parishioners in supporting those affected by the earthquake in Syria is a testament to the strength of the community and its commitment to helping others in need. The event is a true celebration of the community and its faith, and everyone is looking forward to next year’s event.
