Under the patronage of His Eminence Metropolitan Basilios, on Sunday 17 July 2022, Sunday School children from years 3 and 4 from both the Sts Peter and Paul and St Mary Nativity parishes and their parents and teachers, participated in a special Divine Liturgy and meal of Agape. This was to celebrate the completion of a new educational program, called ‘Being an Orthodox Christian’, designed to strengthen the children’s understanding of their Orthodox Christian faith. Each child received a certificate of achievement and was gifted a Bible.
The ‘Being an Orthodox Christian’ program ran over 8 weeks with the children engaging in learning about the meaning of their Baptism and Chrismation, Holy Eucharist, prayer, fasting and confession. The children were also required to undertake an almsgiving activity to complete the program.
The goal is to have this program run across more parishes in the Archdiocese in the coming years in order to strengthen the foundation of our children’s Orthodox faith. Thank you to the dedicated teachers and parents for their commitment to raising their children in faith, particularly Sandy Abu Duhou for designing and facilitating the program.
