SUNDAY SCHOOL CHANTING / AWARD CEREMONY: 2022
On Sunday 27th March, the Third Sunday of Lent and the “Adoration of the Cross”, the Sunday School celebrated by chanting The Troparion (Hymn) of the Elevation of the Cross” after the Procession, followed by each child receiving a “Participation Prize” for their chanting efforts in Christ, in a special Award Ceremony.
This year, and for the past ten (10) years, all prizes were provided by the family of the “Late Adele Batrouney”, the Founder of St. George’s Sunday School, as a Memorial Prize. Adele established, loved and cherished our Sunday School in 1983, and her love and contribution live on through this Memorial Award.
This year we were blessed by the presence of His Eminence Metropolitan Basilios, who presided over the Divine Liturgy and participated in the Award Ceremony, making it a special blessing for the students. Junior group prizes were presented by Mr Andrew Batrouney (Adele’s youngest son); Intermediate group prizes presented by Fr. Jack Lutfi; and Senior group prizes presented by His Eminence Metropolitan Basilios. Sadly, Fr. George Nasr could not share in this special event due to health reasons, and his presence was greatly missed.
The presentation concluded with a surprise Icon gift presentation by His Eminence to Mr Trevor Batrouney (Adele’s eldest son), acknowledging both his and the Batrouney family’s, contribution to educating the children of our congregation in the Antiochian Orthodox Faith, over many decades. It was emotionally received, with appreciation.
Thank you to His Eminence Metropolitan Basilios, Fr. George & Fr. Jack for their ongoing support of the Sunday School, our devoted Teachers, and Adele Batrouney’s family for their generous contribution over the last ten years. May God bless our precious Sunday School Children, who brought many glories to God today.
