Under the patronage of His Eminence, Metropolitan Basilios…The Antiochian Byzantine Music School is a music school that belongs to the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia aiming to teach the art of Byzantine Music.

The School’s mission…

…is to educate chanters of the Orthodox church in the art of byzantine ecclesiastical music. The school’s main objective is to produce chanters that can independently read byzantine music notations and chant during church services.

The school is managed by a committee of nominated chanters of the church.

3 years, each year consisting of 2 terms. The term dates are determined by the state’s secular school/university system. A slight variation in breaks may be applied to the school terms to suit the church calendar.

Classes are held on MONDAY NIGHTS, and will start at 7:00 pm and typically finish at 9 pm with a short break. This may be adjusted slightly by the teacher as necessary depending on the content delivery.

Note: During the Easter lent period, classes will start at 7:30 pm, instead of 7:00 pm.

Face to face classes will held at the Antiochian Youth Centre, Punchbowl NSW, with the aspiration to grow interstate in the future.

Classes might move to online mode if restrictions apply.

Prior to the commencement of each year, new applicants will be assessed based on their current Byzantine Music knowledge and allocated to the most relevant year. Admission is open for students aged 16 – 50 years old.

Students will need to attend at least 80% of the class sessions. At the end of each year, the student’s knowledge will be assessed based on the contents of the year.

Successful students will be able to move on to the next level. Upon successful completion of the 3-year course, students will be eligible to graduate.

An annual fee of $150 is to be paid at the start of each year. The fee will cover all required materials such as learning materials, CDs, etc.
