All about AOS

Our mission and key principles

The mission of the Antiochian Orthodox Stewardship is to preserve, practice, and proclaim the Orthodox Christian faith in order to Glorify God through the Stewardship program.

Our key principles are:

  1. Commitment
  2. Worship
  3. Fellowship

What is a Steward?

A steward is a person who looks after and protects. We want to be as St Paul says in 1 Corinthians, “Servants of Christ and Stewards of the mystery of God”.

What is the Stewardship Program?

The Stewardship program is run under the blessing and supervision of His Eminence Metropolitan Basilios, and under the guidance of the Spiritual Advisor, Fr. Romanos, as appointed by His Eminence.

The Program runs on a weekly basis, with activities held from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm every Friday night at St Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, Punchbowl. Children/Youth aged 8 and above of the Antiochian Orthodox Faith are welcome to join the Stewardship Program.

The program combines elements of Spirituality, life skills, and musical/marching band practice, aiming to enforce our key principles. Through the Program, we aim to:

  1. Allow the stewards to actively participate in the life of the Church and grow in faith and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ through educational programs, which includes our Marching Band Program, as noted in Psalm 150: 3-6 “ Praise Him with the sound of a trumpet, Praise Him with harp and lyre, Praise Him with timbrel and dance, Praise Him with strings and flutes, Praise Him with resounding cymbals, Praise Him with Triumphant Cymbals, Let everything that has breath Praise the Lord”;
  2. Express the Orthodox faith and the love of Christ through our on-going commitment to the life of the Church and through the use of talents, offering time and participating in charitable works; and
  3. Live the Christian faith in day to day life.

The Antiochian Orthodox Stewards also serve and assist in the organising of the Metropolitan & Archdiocese activities and functions.

A celebration is held each year in July, in which existing Stewards renew their pledges and new Stewards are introduced into the Program. Further, the celebration recognises and rewards the efforts of the Stewards for their contributions throughout the year.
