Christ is born, Glorify him!
“Charity is indeed, a great thing, and a gift of God, and when it is rightly ordered likens God unto God himself”- St John Chrysostom
Over the Nativity’s fasting period, ACOY Victoria continued with its established tradition and hosted the annual Nativity Charity drive in collaboration with our Melbourne parishes. In the spirit of almsgiving that works hand in hand with prayer and fasting this allowed our communities to donate to the less fortunate. This year we began our charity drive on St John Chrysostom Feast day and completed it the week before the Nativity of our Lord.
This year we collaborated with Paradise 4 Kids who run a food truck every Tuesday night located in St Alban’s and feeds hundreds of struggling people and families. Jane and her fellow volunteers cook all the food themselves and distribute it. During this nativity drive we collected many different foods, spices, toiletry items, and Christmas toys. The food and spices collected will be used to cook food for the homeless.
By God’s grace, we were able to collect over 3500 items across all the different parishes. These items included necessities such as shampoo, conditioner, sanitary pads, toothbrushes and toothpaste. It also includes food and spices such as rice, pasta, oil, oregano, paprika, salt, pepper, tomato paste and crushed tomato.
We are truly blessed with the overwhelming support received from all parishes even through these troubling times. The Nativity drive has now become a cherished community event, reflecting how generous and compassionate our community is.
We express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported us during this year’s Nativity Charity Drive, as well as in previous years. With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Basilios, we hope to continue our mission of giving to those in need, inspired by the spirit of compassion and service exemplified by our Lord Jesus Christ.
