With the blessing of Father George Elkhoury, the first meeting of the families group was held at St Nicholas Church, East Melbourne. This is a new ministry of the parish, it offers an opportunity for families to gather, share and grow together. For the parents, it provides a chance to be together learn about the faith and consider social matters of interest from a faith perspective. For the children, it offers another opportunity to be present in the church environment with their peers.
At this initial meeting, participants offered their views about the purpose and type of activities for future meetings, also the parents enjoyed a Lenten quiz while the children board games and basketball. The group had committed to meet on regular basis and actively promote future meetings to parishioners, with the next meeting planned for after Holy Pascha.
