To celebrate the feast of Saint Peter and Paul, the 26th of June saw Sunday School children from Saint Paul’s in Dandenong commemorate the feast by honouring their parish patron Saint, the Holy Apostle Paul.
On this special occasion, the full English divine liturgy led by Father Jean Mawal and choir leader Kh Rita Mawal saw students aged between 7 and 16 serving in the liturgy through roles in the altar and chanting in the choir. The Epistle of the day, chapter 2 from Saint Paul’s epistle to the Romans was also read in Arabic by one of the students.
Following the truly fulfilling liturgy, the faithful gathered in the church hall for the second part of the children’s showcase, whereby children from the 13+ class provided parishioners with a beautiful reflection of the epistle of the day, which they had studied and written throughout term 2.
Finally, parishioners were treated to a play on the life of Saint Paul, performed by students aged 4 through to 12. Scenes included Saint Stephens’s martyrdom, Saint Paul’s conversion on the road to Damascus, his baptism, his escape from Damascus and experiences during his life preaching and converting people to Christianity. The final scene showed how Saint Paul appeared to Saint John Chrysostom and helped reveal to him Christ’s teachings.
It was a truly blessed day to see the children honour the upcoming feast. May Saint Paul intercede and protect his flock always.
