With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Basilios, the Antiochian Byzantine Music School (ABMS) held its 2022 opening ceremony on Monday 4th April at the AYC in Punchbowl.
The ceremony was opened by the School Director, Mr Lucien Yaacoub, welcoming the students and reflecting on the challenges and achievements of the 2021 year.
His Eminence then addressed the students, reflecting on the history of the sacred Byzantine music and the importance of preserving and learning the new language, which requires dedication, time and effort.
The teaching staff (Fr Romanos Albaba, Lucien Yaacoub, Simon Yazbek and Charlie Barjel) were then introduced to the students, while the School Director expressed his deep appreciation for all the hard work, sacrifice and dedication the teachers have put into the year 2021.
The students then surprised his Eminence with liturgy chants learned during year 1. The ceremony concluded with the school director emphasising the school’s vision and mission, and finally thanking His Eminence for his continued support, blessings and prayers.
May the Lord bless the teachers and the students in this very important initiative.
