With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Basilios, the Antiochian Byzantine Music School (ABMS) was officially opened on Monday 17th May 2021 at the AYC in Punchbowl.
The ceremony began with prayer and was followed by an opening address by the School Director, Mr Lucien Yaacoub. His Eminence then addressed the students, expressing his delight over the great number of registrations the school received – an amazing 38 in total.
He also emphasized the importance of the role of choirs and chanters in helping the faithful to pray:
“A chanter must be humble and prayerful. They must always remember that we chant in order to pray, not the other way around.”
The teaching staff (Fr Romanos Albaba, Lucien Yaacoub, Simon Yazbek and Charlie Barjel) were then introduced to the students.
The ceremony concluded with the chanting of “It is the day of the Resurrection” by the staff and light refreshments.
May the Lord bless the teachers and the students in this very important initiative.
