On 21 of October 2020, His Eminence Metropolitan Basilios, with other Middle Eastern Bishops of Australia (members of AMEC) paid a special visit to H.G. Bishop Haigazon Najarian, primate of the Armenian Orthodox Church, to show their support to the Armenian community.

His Grace Bishop Najarian updated them on the current situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and the impact this conflict has had on the Armenian people in the region. After the visit, the bishops prayed together, asking God to send peace upon the region and its people.

Concerning the conflict, the Bishops and representatives of AMEC have released a statement. They referred that: “The present disturbances and military activity in the region have impacted upon large numbers of Christians”.

Also: “We fear that the especially vulnerable – women and children, the elderly and the infirm – will be caught up in a conflict, not of their making”.

The archbishops and bishops emphasized that: “As representatives of Christian Communities, we abhor injustice and violence, and we call upon all those who determine the affairs of nations to move swiftly and definitively to restore order and to ensure continued peace”.

They concluded the release with: “We also invite all our Faithful, to pray unceasingly that our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, will bestow His everlasting peace upon all humanity, especially nowadays upon in the Nagorno-Karabakh region”.
