On the 20th of December, and with the blessing and presence of His Eminence Metropolitan Basilios, St. Paul’s Parish Sunday School children showcased their end of year concert.
Following weeks of preparation, the children took over 200 special guests and parishioners on an educational journey about the role of Saints as intercessors and when to call upon them in our everyday lives to intercede before God.
The children focused on 11 special Orthodox saints who are known for their intercessions for the protection of children, youth and families, when travelling, when studying, for health of eyes, when in need of spiritual nourishment and spiritual help, when in need of help finding a job, house, spouse or missing item and for the protection against evil.
For each Saint, the children performed a role play demonstrating one of their known miracles, followed by the Saint’s troparion chanted by the Sunday School children’s choir. Each Saint’s icon was also added to a large painted “home prayer corner” which sat on stage.
To conclude the concert all Sunday School children took the stage to chant St. Basil the Great’s troparion in honour of our chief shepherd Metropolitan Basilios.
Following the performance, His Eminence addressed the children and presented each child with a gift bag containing a candle holder, prayer rope and a copy of “Saints of our Lives”, a booklet produced by St. Paul’s Sunday School, containing life stories of 22 Orthodox Saints who are each known for their special purposes.
With His Eminence’s blessing, guests then enjoyed a light supper together, prepared most generously by the children’s families, and each took home a copy of “Saints of our Lives”.
St. Paul’s Sunday School offers sincere thanks to His Eminence for giving the children his blessing and joining St. Paul’s parish for our annual end of year concert. We also thank Fr. Geoff Harvey, Fr. Dn. Nicholas and all guests who attended and showed their support for St. Paul’s Sunday School Children.
A special thank you is also in order to Fr. George, Fr. Jean, Kh. Rita and all our Sunday School teachers for their continued support towards St. Paul’s Sunday School and making special events like the end of year concert possible and highly successful.
May God continue to bless St. Paul’s Sunday School and grant both children and teachers the wisdom and knowledge to carry out blessed works.
