On the weekend of the 27th and 28th of July, His Eminence, Metropolitan Basilios travelled to Adelaide to visit the local community of St Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church. He was received by Fr. Nicholas Haddad, along with other clergy and faithful.
During his stay, Metropolitan Basilios met with the parish council, ladies auxiliary, and youth of the community and offered pastoral guidance and support. He assured the community that they remain in his prayers and thoughts and that he is proud of their achievements thus far in the South Australian city. He continued by offering boundless words of encouragement in the hope that the community would continue striving for the Glory of God to the best of their ability.
A great emphasis was placed on education, especially amongst the young, through the help of the Church School in Adelaide. His Eminence also distributed many resources to the community including books and pamphlets that the Archdiocese had organised and made.
On Saturday evening the community gathered for vespers prayers and on Sunday morning, Matins and Liturgy were held. Afterwards, a fellowship with the community was organised, which gave a chance for His Eminence to meet more people and offer his pastoral care where needed.
The Sunday School children beautifully chanted the Apolytikion of St Elias, which H.E was very pleased to hear and afterwards a cake was cut along with the kids, in remembrance of the feast of the great Prophet Elias.
All in all, it was a blessed trip… May God grant our father and Metropolitan Basilios many years for his tireless pursuit at glorifying God and supporting the Antiochian Orthodox Christian faithful all around Australia.
