1   Contemporary Issues Sessions

Commencing Sunday 4 June 2006, Contemporary Issues Sessions will be held every second Sunday at Saint Nicholas Punchbowl, immediately after evening Divine Liturgy which commences at 6pm.

The next session on Sunday 16th July 2006, will be held at Saint Nicholas Church Punchbowl immediately after evening Divine Liturgy which commences at 6pm.  Led by His Eminence Archbishop Paul, the topic is Youth in Today's Church.

Contemporary issues sessions then will continue approximately once a month on Sunday evenings at Saint Nicholas Church Punchbowl at 7.15pm

2  Saturday 10 June 2006 - Wedding at Wangaratta

On Saturday 10 June 2006, Sophie Panopoulos MP was married to Lieutenant Colonel Gregory Mirabella in an Antiochian Orthodox service held in the Anglican Cathedral at Wangaratta Vic.

Touching on everything from politics to the sanctity of marriage, Fr Geoff Harvey led the service before the couple exited the cathedral through a military honour guard comprising Lt-Col Mirabella’s colleagues from Puckapunyal army base, the Bordermail newspaper reported.

Sophie has been a strong supporter of the English-speaking Good Shepherd Mission in Canterbury Victoria over the years. Father Geoff Harvey, is the parish priest of the Good Shepherd Mission. Many of the guests who attended commented on how beautiful they found the singing by the Good Shepherd choir.

3   Monday 12 June 2006 - Holy Cross Monastery Visit

Saints Michael and Gabriel Parish, West Ryde, Sydney, visited the nuns of the Holy Cross Monastery at Mangrove Mountain, near Gosford. Saint Peter and Paul Parish, Rooty Hill, also visited the monastery at the same time.

The nuns were their usual most hospitible selves and were very kind to have us at their monastery on this important day for them.

Having the two parishes visit at the same time allowed old friends to catch up, and for Father Aziz to give a talk to the older folk in Arabic.  At the same time, Father Deacon Chris spoke with the younger people from both parishes in English.

The Canon of Supplication in the nuns' chapel was chanted in Greek mainly and some English by the nuns, English by Father Deacon Chris, and English and Arabic by Father Aziz and the people.

4   Saturday 17 June 2006 - Saint George Cathedral Debutantes Ball

Under the patronage of His Eminence, the Saint George Cathedral Parish held its bi-annual debutantes ball on Saturday 17 June 2006. This year 12 young ladies were presented at the debutantes ball.

The 12 debutantes and their partners were lead out by the mascot, 8 children, and all were presented to His Eminence, and our Matron for the evening, Khouriyeh Mansour.

Congratulations to all the young people who participated in the debut this year.

5   20 June 2006 - Byzantine Music School

The Antiochian Archdiocese commenced a new season in Byzantine Music tuition on 20 June 2006.  Conducted by Subdeacon Rafic it is held at 7:30 pm every Wednesday evening at the old Archdiocesan Headquarters, 8 Henry Street, Punchbowl.

6   Sunday 25 June 2006 - Saints Peter and Paul Feast Day

Saints Peter and Paul parish at 259 Hyatts Road, Rooty Hill, Sydney, will celebrate their patronal feast day on Sunday 25 June 2006. At 6.30pm a special service will start with vespers in Arabic followed by Divine Liturgy in English. His Eminence Paul Saliba will preside.

Light refreshments will follow the service.

7   Friday 30 June 2006 - Annual Dinner Dance Sylvania

The annual dinner dance for the Saint Michael Sylvania parish will be held on Friday 30 June 2006 7.30pm at Doltone House, Sylvania Waters.  A three course meal, wine, soft drink, and live entertainment is offered for $90 per ticket. Proceeds go to the Saint Michael Building Fund. For tickets and further information please contact Louis Mikhail.

8   Friday 30 June to 2 July 2006 - Board of Trustees meeting

The Board of Trustees will meet in Brisbane from 30 June til 2 July. The BOT members will also participate at the celebration of the inauguration of the new church at Woollooongabba.

9   Friday 30 June to Sunday 2 July 2006 - Consecration of Saint Paul Church Woolloongabba

His Eminence will preside at the consecration of the Saint Paul Church Woolloongabba Queensland.

On Friday 30 June 2006 at 6pm Consecration Vespers will be celebrated. On Saturday 1 July at 5pm the Consecration Serrvice of the church will be celebrated by His Eminence Sayidna Paul. At 7.30pm a dinner party will be held at the Greek Orthodox Southside Parish Hall, 269 Creek Road, Mt Gravatt.  Hierarchical Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Sunday 2 July 2006 at 10.30am.

The Parish started building the church two years ago and has used it for Holy Services since then.

Congratulations are extended to the priest and members of the Woolloongabba Parish in Brisbane.

10    Sunday 2 July 2006 - Saint George Thornbury Lunch

Saint George Thornbury Youth group will be hosting a lunch at the Church. On the menu is Fish n Chips.

12   Sunday 9 July 2006 - Saint George Thornbury Monastery Trip

Saint George Thornbury Parish is making a trip to the Greek Orthodox Monastery in Geelong right after Divine Liturgy.

13   Sunday 16 July 2006 - Saint George Thornbury Nursing Home Visit

Saint George Thornbury Youth Group, along with the dubke group, will be visiting a nursing home. Included will be a performance and afternoon tea.

15    Friday 21 July 2006 - Snow Trip

Saint Mary Mays Hill Youth have organised a Snow Trip commencing Friday 21 July 2006. Accommodation is at The Alpine Gables and includes luxury coach transfers, daily resort transfers, 2 days national park entrance, 2 nights accommodation (multi share), 2 breakfasts, 1 dinner, 2 day all mountain pass at Thredbo, 2 by 2 hour first timer lessons and 2 days hire.

16   Saturday 22 July 2006 - Saints Peter and Paul Annual Dinner

17   Saturday 22 July 2006 - Monastery visit to Geelong

Good Shepherd Canterbury Parish intend visiting the Orthodox Convent in Geelong on the afternoon of Saturday 22 July 2006.

18   Every Monday Evening - Religious Discussion in English

Every Monday evening at 7.30pm there is an English Religious Discussions in the Saint George Thornbury Church Hall.  Topics covered are steps of the "Divine Ladder of Ascent" and also Church and Liturgical Practice.  Led by Subdeacon Jean-Paul.  All welcome.

19   Every Wednesday Evening - Byzantine Music Classes in Arabic

In June 2006 the Antiochian Archdiocese commenced a new season in Byzantine Music tuition. Every Wednesday at 7:30 pm it is conducted at the old Archdiocesan Headquarters, 8 Henry Street Punchbowl, and led by the Archbishop's Subdeacon Rafic Al Baba.

Until moving to Australia, Subdeacon Rafic was Patriarchal Subdeacon in Lebanon.

20   Every Friday Night - Free Arabic Classes 5.30pm and 6.30pm

Ever wanted to learn to speak, read, and write, Arabic?  Well now is your chance, every Friday night at Saint Mary Church Hall Mays Hill, there are 2 Arabic classes.

Childrens class (aged between 8 to 13 year) at 5:30pm to 6:30pm
Teens and Adults class (14+) at 6:30pm to 7:30pm

21   Every Friday Night - Stop and Think Sessions

Stop and Think Sessions are held in the church hall at Saint George Cathedral, Redfern at 7:30pm every Friday night with Father Nabil. All are welcome to attend. More information. 

For three weeks from Friday 14 July 2006 at 7.30pm Father Nabil will be presenting a short series on the Divine Liturgy.  Father Nabil will be covering everything from the content of the service to the significance of the vestments worn by the priest.  More information.

22   Every Saturday Night - Vespers and Bible Study in English - 6.30pm

Great Vespers is served in English every Saturday night at Saints Michael and Gabriel Parish at West Ryde Community Centre, 1A Station Street, West Ryde, two doors down from Victoria Road.

Tea, coffee, biscuits, and fellowship, follows Great Vespers. Then about 7.30pm Questions and Answers, and Bible study commences, led by various invited presenters.

Finishes at 8.30pm sharp.

All welcome, including especially younger people, Christians of other varieties, and generally interested people.
