Archbishop's scheduled activities for the month of March 2006

a) Visit Governor-General Michael Jefferies in Canberra

b) Visit Perth and Bunbury in Western Australia 

c) Luncheon at the Immigration Office in Sydney

d) Celebration of Sunday of Orthodoxy at Saint Mary Church Mays Hill NSW

e) Attend dinner in honour of the Mayor of Minya – Lebanon

f) Meeting of the Heads of Churches

g) Meeting with the Eastern Hierarchs

h) Preside over Romanian Orthodox Liturgy, and attend a get-together with the different Romanian groups

i) Deliver theology class every Thursday from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm in Punchbowl NSW

j)  Meeting in the Archdiocese headquarters with the new manager of the Multicultural Affairs and Settlement Branch, Federal Department of Immigration

2  Macedonian Reader's sponsorship terminates

Macedonian Reader, Ivan Todoroski's sponsorship to Australia was terminated.  Arrangements were made for his return to Macedonia.

3   Friday 10 March 2006 - Holy Forty Martyrs at Mirboo North

At 7pm on Friday 10 March 2006 more than 40 people were present at Saint Andrew's Church Mirboo North where the Orthodox Mission of Holy Forty Martyrs of Sebaste gathers.  The patronal feast day was celebrated there with Divine Liturgy of the Pre-Sanctified Gifts.

More than 40  people were present with members of the Australian Orthodox Mission of the Good Shepherd making the 2 hour pilgimmage from Canterbury, Melbourne to Mirboo North.

After the liturgy, some of the Canterbury pilgrims were photo'd in fellowship outside the Mirboo North church.  They commented on the hospitality of the DeSilva and Gatehouse families in particular, and gave thanks to all the Mirboo North Parish for their warm welcome. (photos Joan Hansen).

4   Sunday 12 March 2006 - Sunday of Orthodoxy -7pm

Since the ninth century, the first Sunday of Lent, dedicated to celebrating the victory of Orthodoxy, has been known as Sunday of Orthodoxy. 

Hierarchical Great Vespers commemorating the Sunday of Orthodoxy for all Melbourne region churches was served at Saint Paul Church, Dandenong at 7pm Saturday evening.  Concelebrating with His Eminence were all the Victorian clergy.

His Eminence Metropolitan Archbishop Paul presided over Hierarchical Great Vespers commemorating the Sunday of Orthodoxy for all Sydney region churches at Saint Mary Church, Mays Hill at 7pm Sunday evening. Concelebrating with His Eminence were all the Antiochian Orthodox priests of NSW, and other clergy. Over 600 faithful attended.

After the service the Saint Mary parishioners displayed their generosity, love, and commitment for the Church, by offering a succulent variety of Lenten foods.

5   Saturday 25th March 2006 - Saints Michael and Gabriel - SMG Lenten Retreat Day

Saints Michael and Gabriel Parish successfully held the SMG Lenten Retreat Day (all day event) on 25th March 2006.

Location: 1A Station Street, West Ryde Community Hall, West Ryde.

6   Saturday 25 March 2006 - Patronal Feast Day of Buna-Vestire Parish, Bankstown

Buna-Vestire Romanian-speaking parish celebrated their patronal feast day of the Annunication of the Blessed Virgin Mary, on Saturday 25 March 2006, with a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy commencing at 9.30am.
Location: Saint Nicholas Church, 2a Weigand Street, Bankstown, NSW.  All were welcomed by His Eminence Metropolitan Archbishop Paul who concelebrated with six of his Sydney priest and his subdeacon. Photo report appears in April 2006 News.
