Today the Virgin is the foreshadowing of the pleasure of God, and the beginning of the preaching of the salvation of mankind. Thou hast appeared in the Temple of God openly and hast gone before, preaching Christ to all. Let us shout with one thrilling voice, saying, Rejoice, O thou who art the fulfillment of the Creator’s dispensation. (Apolytikion in Tone 4)

(UPDATED AT 8:00 A.M. ON 11-18-2008) Diminishing winds have made efforts easier for firefighters in most of the major fires burning in southern California. The Tea Fire in Montecito (Santa Barbara County) is now 100% contained, and residents have returned home and back to school. The Sayre Fire in Sylmar has destroyed almost 500 mobile homes, but it is now 65% contained. However, the Triangle Complex Fire burning near Corona (Orange and Riverside counties) has consumed almost 29,000 acres and 259 homes as winds continue to fuel the fire. Evacuations are ordered for about 1,000 residences. None of our local parishes are reported to be in danger. Please continue to keep all the residents, firefighters and emergency workers in your prayers.
